Trap Heals is a nonprofit rooted in healing, creativity, and community—and I had the chance to collaborate with their team on a series of graphic apparel drops. The work centered around their core message, “Greetings from the Trap,” and focused on honoring Black resilience through art and storytelling. Based in Los Angeles, they’ve built a strong foundation connecting the arts to social change.
Visually, the designs pulled from neighborhood nostalgia, bold type, and a screenprint-style aesthetic that felt both personal and universal. The graphics weren’t just about location—they were about lineage. It was important to honor the spirit of these cities while still making the apparel feel wearable and design-forward.
Together, we developed a collection of community shirts, each one spotlighting a different Black city. At the heart of each design was a well-known home—famous not for its architecture, but for the legacy and cultural weight it carried. These homes became symbols of pride, survival, and the roots so many Black families have built while rising out of tough circumstances.
We also explored expanding the idea globally, with an early-stage collaboration in South Africa. Though it didn’t materialize, the intention was to show that the challenges—and the triumphs—of Black communities are connected across continents. The work with Trap Heals was less about trends and more about message. It was design with purpose, rooted in history and heart.
